Can jersey cows be kept in storied cw sheds?

I've heard that cows can be led up stairs, but not down. I grew up on a dairy farm but our barn was just one story. To be honest, I'd never heard of storied barns for cows. Ours did have a second story, but we used it for hay and straw storage.
